Pack less than you think
Many things can be bought or washed. Aim for a capsule wardrobe in matching colours and plan laundry.
Essentials
- Clothes: One outfit per day for babies, fewer for older children, plus layers and a spare set in hand luggage.
- Medication and first aid: Plasters, pain relief, rehydration salts and any prescriptions.
- Comfort items: A favourite toy or blanket.
- Entertainment: Books, colouring, small toys and downloaded shows.
- Snacks and a refillable bottle.
- Sun protection: Hats, sunscreen and sunglasses.
Smart systems
- Use packing cubes for each person.
- Pack a day bag with everything for the first 24 hours.
- Label bags with contact details.
- Take zip bags for wet clothes and rubbish.
- Check the destination for baby supplies such as nappies and formula.
Gear
Consider a lightweight stroller or baby carrier, and check airline rules on strollers and car seats.
Leave behind
Heavy toys, too many shoes and anything you can rent at your destination.
Check airline baggage limits before you pack.
